Hi everyone! I have some good news and some sad news. Let’s start with the good news, shall we?
I’m still working on the illustrations of this kidsbook, written in Dutch by Joke Benoot. It will be published this year by Clavis. It’s a heartwarming collection of sweet stories about five animal friends in the forest who are verrrrry afraid. They each have a different thing they’re scared of. In the stories they help each other have a little bit more courage.
Now on to the not so good news…
I’m dealing with back pain for a while now. My whole body seems to be shutting down and begging me to stop whatever the heck I’m doing to it. I’m afraid I overworked myself and have been pushing through this pain way too long. This has huge consequences, cause we needed to decide to take me off the other books I was going to illustrate for Clavis, all written by Margreet Schouwenaar. Obviously, we are all sad about this.
It also means that after Aroe I’m going to take a break from illustrating, to let my body fully recover. Because I want to be able to keep on illustrating for the rest of my life!
I seriously need to reconsider my way of working and the style I’m working in. Back pain problems are not new to me and what’s happening now makes me realize that I need to find an illustration style that suits the needs of my body. Which my current style is definitely not.
So that’s what I’ll be doing in the future. And that’s also why I decided to take down my portfolio website for the time being.
No panic allowed, I’ll be back 🙂
And I see this as an opportunity to work on several wishes of mine: to loosen up in my style of working and to work on my own stories. But first: healing time! Oh wait, let’s rephrase that: First finish Aroe, and then healing time 🙂
